Tragedy in Eastleigh as Flat Fire Claims Lives of Pet Cat and Dog

A dog and a cat have died after a fire broke out in a flat in Eastleigh on Saturday afternoon.

The blaze occurred at a ground floor property in Monks Way at around 3pm, where the two pets were killed in the incident.

Firefighters were called to the scene and discovered smoke and flames coming from a kitchen fire inside the flat, according to a spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

The owners were not at home at the time of the fire and have since been rehomed with family members.

A fire service spokesperson said: “Crews from St Mary’s were called to a fire at Monks Way at 3pm yesterday.

“On arrival, they found smoke and flames coming from a ground floor flat.

“When crews attended, it was identified as a kitchen fire.

“They used breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire with hoses and vent fans.

“Sadly, a cat and a dog died during the incident.

“Crews left the scene following their stop at 3.57pm.

“No one was inside during the incident and the owners have been rehomed with family members.”
